Behind Closed Doors - poetry by Zoë Akpan

Hands on my waist,

Marks on my face,

Whispers in my ear,

Screams inciting fear,

‘I love you’s forced down my worn throat,

Threats of departure run afloat,

Stuck to him like glue,

“Oh, we rarely argue.”
